Information and Advocacy is available for workshops. 1. Lawyers and Legal Aid: What You Need to Know. Clarify your expectations and define your and your lawyer's role. Discover how to determine your eligibility for legal aid and how to apply for it. Learn to minimize costs, conduct research on your own behalf, and explore alternative options to legal aid and/or a lawyer and Outside the Trial Process Government's cost effective initiatives are now leaning to options other than the Trial process, which may not necessarily serve your best interest. Explore the services now available including Mediation, Collaborative Law and Family Justice Counselors 2.The Court Process: An Overview of What It Is and What Happens. This is not "Law and Order" Going to court can be intimidating. The choice of Provincial Court or Supreme Court can have a great impact. This workshop identifies the differences between the various levels of the Courts and the Civil and Criminal justice systems. It also covers Case Conferences and how to present yourself in court. 3.Legal Protection: Peace Bonds/Restraining Orders and Others. Peace Bonds and Restraining Orders are the commonest forms of protection orders issued to ensure personal safety. Examine the limitations and advantages of various types of orders. Personal Safety Planning is also addressed in this workshop. 4. Custody and Access. Different legal and practical aspects to help you navigate through the muddy water of Custody and Access. Find out why Guardianship may be more important than Access. 5. Court Applications: What They Are and How to Get Them With the cut backs in Legal Aid and the high fees of lawyers, more and more women are having to represent themselves. Explore Court Registries and the terminologies and forms for Maintenance, Custody/Access, Protection Orders, etc. Even if you do have a lawyer this workshop will provide you with information to help you communicate more effectively with your lawyer. 6. Women's Mosaic: Come join us in creating a Mosaic masterpiece, Tell your story visually, no artistic talent required. Though not Art Therapy by creating a panel you can touch your own feelings abut violence in the home and create something that will involve and inspire others who have been touched by violence and those who wish to end violence against women, youth and children.
